A range of family-friendly online activities for half term are being held from next Friday (February 19) at a museum.

At the Museum of Cambridge, there will be a free storytelling session with professional folklorist Chip Colquhoun and illustrator Dave Hingley, who will create live illustrations online to go along with the story.

There will also be a virtual treasure hunt that can be done at home, though details are yet to be revealed.

Further ahead in March, there will be talks by historian Honour Ridout about the 2,000 year history of Cambridge and archaeologist Dr Jenna Dittmar about the impact of broken bones in medieval Cambridge.

The Museum of Cambridge has successfully reached the halfway point in its fundraising appeal, raising just over £25,000 of the £50,000 target in just over two months.

The fundraising campaign was launched in November last year after the Covid-19 pandemic left the museum in acute risk of having to close for good due to reduced income from ticket sales and venue hire.

Set in the Grade II-listed 17th century White Horse Inn, on the important Roman street that links castle, river and university, the museum has told the stories of local people since it ceased trading as a pub in 1936.
